Books vs Keira Knightley Part III

Here she is again: this time she's playing Sabina Spielrein, and thus yet again a real person is pushed off the front of the cover of a book about them (or in this case, three real people get shafted).

So here's the Keira Knightley library so far. I note that she's also starring in a film version of Anna Karenina coming out next year, so this collection will be expanding soon.

In time, every woman in literature and history will have been played by Keira Knightley.

Usually, when casting an actress in a tough role from literature like Anna Karenina, you'd want to go with an actress who can - well - act. Alas, Keira is not blessed with the ability to act, and yet still she gets all these juicy roles.

Keira Knightley -- soon she'll be able to join the woman with the birdcage and the guy on the street corner wearing a hat for overuse on book covers

I actually think she's not a bad actress. She's improving as she goes along and she obviously knows hot to pick the best scripts!

She's like the Thing, the way she's assimilating book covers...

Why are you attacking the actress, who has no say in what goes on a book cover - that's the publisher's decision. (Presumably, someone thinks her image will sell books.)

I have nothing against Keira Knightley, I'm just amused by the number of books she's on--and annoyed when non-fiction books get their subjects bumped off the covers in favour of the actors who play them.

Strangely enough, those different images of Kiera Knightley look so dissimilar. She's become a kind of generic woman!

Well, the problem with this covers is they are lazy. It's possible to make a book cover with connection with the movie, without using the poster of the movie. Its even possible to make a cover of a Keira Knightley movie withot her. The Brazilian edition of Atonement do that. http://sobrecapas.blogspot.com/2011/11/iconografia-literaria.html

That's a good point, Samir. A well-chosen film still can make for a very effective cover. Movie posters usually just look tacky.

Matthew, I so hate the idea of her playing Anna Karenina. No doubt we'll be getting some of her strange jaw movements (presumably intended to portray intense emotion) and vampiric grins.

BTW, the original covers of both 'Never Let Me Go' (long-haired girl in a long skirt sitting on the grass) and 'Atonement' (barefoot young girl sitting on a stone staircase) were haunting and evocative. Much better than anything with Keira on it.
